When will all this happen?
The General Assembly set the enactment of these changes for early 2022.
What happens in early 2022?
ABC will launch the VAL (Virginia ABC License) portal, a web-based software application for licensees. This online portal will be available 24 hours a day through the ABC website and will reflect all license and fee changes mandated by the General Assembly.
How do I get access to the VAL Portal?
After launch, every active licensee will receive a letter from ABC with instructions on how to get into the VAL portal. The letter will contain PIN numbers and explain the process for linking your existing license information to your account. Go to www.abc.virginia.gov and follow the instructions in the letter.
Will there be training opportunities?
Yes! ABC will conduct a number of online live tutorials. These tutorials will also be recorded and posted on the ABC website. However, the VAL portal software application is easy to navigate even with no training or experience.
What if I don’t have internet access?
In the rare case where a licensee (or potential licensee) does not have access to the internet, a waiver can be granted and an additional service charge added to all paper transactions.
What if I have more questions about these changes?
ABC is developing a formal customer support procedure. Once finalized, this information will be communicated via letter, email and posted on the ABC website. You may also contact your agent. If they can’t answer your question immediately, they will get you the answer.
