Fiscal Year 2025 was a year of partnerships. For a seventh consecutive year the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority garnered alcohol sales in excess of $1 billion. This achievement was possible through strong alliances with our supplier partners working together to drive consumer engagement. Virginia ABC transferred $628.1 million to Virginia’s general fund. A major source of revenue for the Commonwealth, the authority has contributed more than $13.9 billion to the general fund since 1934.

Virginia ABC is self-sustaining and contributes its excess sales profits to the state to help pay for essential public services, which in turn helps offset the cost burden placed on taxpayers. Last year, Virginia ABC saved every taxpayer an average of $150. You're welcome, Virginia!
Virginia Is One of the Nation's 17 Control States
Being a control state means that the state government manages the regulation, sale, and distribution of distilled spirits at the wholesale level. That gives Virginia better community alcohol health and safety outcomes and higher financial contributions to keep the state running.
Virginia ABC Supports Programs to Prevent Alcohol Misuse at Almost Every Age Level
In just the last dozen years, Virginia ABC has Distributed nearly $800,000 in education and prevention grants for 286 community projects and implemented programs directly impacting over 250,000 youth.

Since 2015, when StateWays Magazine (the only national magazine devoted to control state issues) started awarding its "Best of the Best" Overall Best Practices Award to control states, Virginia ABC has won the top award three times - most recently in 2023.
