Shake ingredients in with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass with a few ice cubes. If desired, garnish with a cherry.
There are many options for varying this recipe. Try it with vanilla, simple syrup and a pinch of grated nutmeg. Add vanilla ice cream, orange zest or triple sec and a dash of bitters. Add it to coffee. Or, if you are looking for a spritzy variation, experiment with adding simple syrup and club soda—and fresh cherries.
