Virginia ABC to Celebrate Opening of Newest Store in Roanoke

Customers in downtown Roanoke have a new, convenient option to purchase spirits and Virginia wines with the opening of the latest Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) retail store. Virginia ABC officials will host a grand opening ceremony at 121 Campbell Ave SE at noon on Monday, Jan. 30.

This latest location has historic ties to Virginia ABC. The building housed store number 115 from 1952 to 1983, when that store relocated to its present location at 1423 Williamson Rd NE. The new store on Campbell Avenue, which occupies 3,000 sq. ft., features the original terrazzo flooring.

“Returning to our original downtown location here in Roanoke allows us to better serve our customers,” said Virginia ABC Chief Executive Officer Travis Hill. “This is an especially convenient stop for commuters, residents and visitors to the beautiful heart of the city.”

The public is invited to the ceremony, which will include brief remarks, a ribbon cutting, photos and informal store tours.

Store hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. The store employs a store manager, assistant store manager, two lead sales associates and two sales associates. It is the fifth store in the City of Roanoke, and the 398th Virginia ABC store.

Store inventory will include more than 1,200 items, including 213 different brands and sizes of whiskeys, 88 cordials, 224 vodkas and 124 tequilas.

Customers are encouraged to visit Virginia ABC’s website at http://www.abc.virginia.gov to search for stores, determine the availability of products at any retail location and order spirits online for in-store or curbside pickup, or home delivery in select areas.

Per the Code of Virginia, ABC’s profits from in-store and online retail sales are remitted each year to the commonwealth for designated state programs and services. For fiscal year 2022, ABC contributed a total of $622.8 million ($243.6 million from retail sales) to the commonwealth.

Virginia ABC currently operates 398 state stores and provides alcohol education and prevention programs for people of all ages. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement oversees approximately 19,000 ABC licensed establishments. Now marking its 88th year, ABC remains committed to progress and innovation in carrying out its vision of bringing good spirits and excellent service to Virginia.
