Our Mission

The mission of the Education Section is to promote responsible consumption and distribution by licensees of alcoholic beverages to those of age and zero tolerance for underage consumption through the use of prevention initiatives that focus on environmental, educational and information dissemination strategies.

ABC Forms Alcohol and Aging Awareness Group (AAAG)

While alcohol abuse and misuse affects all people; it is a growing problem facing older Americans. In response to an act of the General Assembly that amends and reenacts 2.2-5510 of the Code of Virginia relating to the effect of the aging population on state agencies, ABC has created an Alcohol and Aging Awareness Group (AAAG) in order to educate ABC customers and caregivers about alcohol misuse among Virginia's aging population. More >>

 

Managers' Alcohol Responsibility Training (MART)

Learn more about Mart Training Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control offers training to help managers become more responsible and to better understand Virginia laws and regulations. Led by a team of ABC special agents, Managers' Alcohol Responsibility Training (MART) is a six-hour class, developed for managers of Virginia's on- and off-premise establishments. More >>

 

Responsible Sellers and Servers: Virginia's Program (RSVP)

Learn more about the RSVP program Virginia ABC offers training to help sellers and servers become more responsible and to better understand ABC laws, rules and regulations. The training is for clerks, cashiers, wait staff and other "front line" employees. Responsible Sellers and Servers: Virginia's Program (RSVP) is a three-hour class designed specifically for Virginia's on-and off-premise licensees led by a team of ABC special agents. More >>

 

Project Sticker Shock

See Project Sticker Shock web page Join us in keeping Virginia's youth alcohol free! Find out more about ABC's initiative to reduce underage drinking - Project Sticker Shock! This is a community awareness campaign designed to educate those persons 21 years of age or older who might illegally purchase alcohol and provide it to minors. The project seeks to increase awareness and compliance of the current Virginia underage drinking laws.

The project represents a partnership among youth, licensees, concerned parents and community members, prevention professionals, and law enforcement. It is a great project for youth groups, faith-based groups, school-based groups or any group interested in preventing underage drinking. More >>

Our Guiding Principles

  • Promote educational resources that target underage drinking.
  • Provide funding resources to promote external educational alcohol prevention efforts.
  • Promote collaborative, community efforts regarding underage drinking.
  • Provide information and resources to parents, the education community, students, institutions of higher learning and law enforcement organizations throughout Virginia.
