The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority is seeking a Warehouse Maintenance Technician. The Warehouse Maintenance Technician will assist in the inspection, service and/or repair of the Distribution Center’s forklifts, pallet jacks, picking and sortation system including conveyor, sorters, spiral lifts and declines, pallet rack, pick modules, flow-rack and other equipment used in the operation of the ABC warehouse.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Perform the inspection, repair, adjustments, servicing and maintaining of all Distribution Center material handling equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, install, and maintain control wiring, electrical circuits, and computer control systems.
  • Operate, test, troubleshoot, and diagnose problems and correct deficiencies.
  • Assist in rebuilding, refurbishing, installing, and modifying DC equipment including conveyor equipment, racks, forklifts, pallet jacks, and stretchwrap machines.
  • Responds to emergency equipment service and/or repair needs in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that distribution system equipment is inspected and maintained in accordance with applicable state and federal codes.
  • Works with programmable logic controls (PLCs), I/O devices, Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) motor controls, MCC Controls, Controls Cabinet Design, HMI and PLC interface software.
  • Working knowledge of the use, function, and electrical operation of various types of photoelectric sensors and inductive proximity sensors and ability to trouble shoot failures of these sensors.
  • Assists with preparing and accurately maintaining all required distribution conveying system and material handling equipment maintenance records.
  • Maintains daily records on all equipment (receipt, repair cost records, exchanges, and other associated information) according to established practices and procedures and periodically advises management on the working status of all equipment.
  • Assists with the coordination of contract work on conveyor and material handling equipment.
  • Inspects and documents work performed by contractors on conveyor and material handling equipment.
  • Ensures contractors are instructed as to the work required and ensures the parts for the work are on hand.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of general construction or machine repair experience.
  • Functional knowledge of, maintenance shop practices, and other industrial maintenance skills to include the use of hand and power tools, computer-based diagnostics and computer control systems and test equipment. Ability to read schematics and blueprints. Working skill in the operation of various types of warehouse mobile equipment and conveyor related equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend technical repair manuals; to perform basic arithmetic calculations; to read gauges and testing devices; to lift and perform manual labor; and to work at heights. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions for the repair and maintenance of equipment and controls.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent with trade courses in electric motor repair, hydraulics, computer control systems, general mechanics or related curriculum.
  • Preferred experience in repair of unit conveyor and sortation systems, computer control systems, hydraulic systems and related to material handling equipment (e.g. forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyor belts, etc.)
