The Gin Fizz is distinguished from its near relative, the Tom Collins, mainly by the size of the glass and the type of gin. For the Gin Fizz, any type of gin can be used; for the Tom Collins, Old Tom gin is traditional.

Shake ingredients well with ice and strain into highball glass over the rocks. Fill with soda water and garnish with peel. The egg white, while traditional, is optional, but provides body and texture. If the egg white is used, it should be shaken especially vigorously for the best results.
