The mission of the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board is to control the distribution
of alcoholic beverages; operate efficient, conveniently located retail outlets; enforce
the laws of the Commonwealth pertaining to alcoholic beverages and youth access to tobacco
products; and provide excellent customer service, a reliable source of revenue, and
effective public safety.
The mission of the Information Technology Services Department is to provide:
Customer Excellence - Align ITSD processes and organization to put internal
and external customers at the forefront of every initiative.
E-business - Establish an interactive presence on the Web that offers customers
ease of use and streamlines Virginia ABC operations.
Information Delivery - Offer robust, flexible and accurate data to members of Virginia ABC
and appropriate points along the supply/revenue chain. Collect data, deliver knowledge.
Process Excellence - Act as business partner to review Virginia ABC processes and offer
reengineered solutions using a sound technology foundation and defined, repeatable
project methodology.
Technical Excellence - Offer flexible solutions based on a superior technical infrastructure.
The Management of Inventory and Product Sales (MIPS) system fulfills both the mission of the
Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and the Information Technology Services Department
by implementing a Web-based automated application, thus improving operational control,
distribution and sales of alcoholic beverages by Virginia ABC. This interactive system also
enhances the efficiency and flexibility of the business, improves customer service, and
promotes sales through the use of state-of-the-art technology.
