In the heart of Alexandria’s Old Town North, a historic Northern Virginia community dating to the 17th century, Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) has opened its newest retail outlet at 501 Montgomery Street. A grand opening celebration will be held at the store at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
“Old Town North has a vibrant retail community that’s been growing in recent years, and we are excited to open a new location in this uniquely walkable area,” said Virginia ABC Chief Executive Officer Travis Hill. “Just blocks from historic sites, parks, neighborhoods and markets, this store will cater to locals and the many visitors who flock to this popular vacation destination situated in close proximity to our nation’s capital and just 10 minutes from Reagan National Airport.”
The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which will include brief remarks from Hill, a ribbon cutting, light refreshments and informal store tours. The first 25 customers will receive a complimentary gift.
Alexandria’s Old Town North ABC store is the 6th ABC store in Alexandria and the second opened in the city in the past several years. In December 2017, the authority opened a store in Del Ray North Shopping Center.
The new store measures 5,000 square feet, about 1,830 square feet larger than the average ABC store. The store’s product selection spans a variety of more than 1,500 items, including 313 bourbons, 272 vodkas, 148 cordials, 108 scotches and 107 tequilas.
The store employs five sales associates, two lead sales associates and a store manager who are eager to help customers find what they are looking for and discover new products. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Virginia ABC currently has 382 stores across the commonwealth and plans to open additional stores in strategic locations to meet market demands and better serve its customers. Currently, 92% of Virginians live within 10 minutes of an ABC store.
Customers are encouraged to visit Virginia ABC’s website at www.abc.virginia.gov to search for stores, determine the availability of products at any retail location and order spirits online for delivery to a local store.
The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) is a major source of revenue for the commonwealth, contributing more than $2.2 billion to the general fund in the last five years. Virginia ABC currently operates 382 state stores, and provides alcohol education and prevention programs for people of all ages. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement oversees more than 19,000 ABC licensed establishments.
