Newest Virginia ABC store opens in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach residents may now purchase spirits at a new Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) store which recently opened at 4807-A Shore Drive in the Chic’s Beach Shopping Center. A grand opening celebration will be held at the store at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.

“We are excited to open a new Virginia Beach location right on Shore Drive that makes shopping for spirits even more convenient for customers,” said Virginia ABC Chief Executive Officer Travis Hill. “This store will cater to locals and the many visitors who flock to this popular vacation destination.”

The Chic’s Beach ABC store will be the 18th ABC store in Virginia Beach and the second opened in the city this year. In January the authority opened a store on Central Park Avenue in Town Center.

Three of ABC’s top selling stores are in the City of Virginia Beach. The Hilltop Shopping Center store was the commonwealth’s second top selling store with $3.57 million in gross profit in fiscal year 2019, the 30th Street store was ranked third ($3.53 million) and the Princess Ann Plaza Shopping Center store ranked sixth ($2.6 million).

The new store measures 5,100 square feet, making it about 1,900 square feet larger than the average ABC store. The store’s product selection spans a variety of more than 1,500 items, including 234 bourbons, 279 vodkas, 149 cordials, 91 scotches and 133 tequilas.

The store employs five sales associates, one lead sales associate and a store manager who are eager to help customers find what they are looking for and discover new products. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Virginia ABC currently has 382 stores across the commonwealth and plans to open additional stores in strategic locations to meet market demands and better serve its customers. Currently, 92% of Virginians live within 10 minutes of an ABC store.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which will include brief remarks from Hill, a ribbon cutting, light refreshments and informal store tours. The first 25 customers will receive a complimentary gift.

Customers are encouraged to visit Virginia ABC’s website at www.abc.virginia.gov to search for stores, determine the availability of products at any retail location and order spirits online for delivery to a local store.

The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) is a major source of revenue for the commonwealth, contributing more than $2.2 billion to the general fund in the last five years. Virginia ABC currently operates 382 state stores, and provides alcohol education and prevention programs for people of all ages. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement oversees more than 19,000 ABC licensed establishments. Now marking its 85th year, ABC remains committed to progress and innovation in carrying out its vision of bringing good spirits and excellent service to Virginia.
