The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Authority has opened its first store in Lebanon, making it the first ABC store for Russell County. A grand opening of the new store, located at 167 Pittston Road in the Food City shopping center, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 10.
The public is invited to join Virginia ABC Board of Directors Chair Jeff Painter, Chief Executive Officer Travis Hill, Chief Retail Operations Officer Jeff Reeder, store staff and special local guests at the event, which will include brief remarks, a ribbon cutting, informational store tours and refreshments. The first 25 customers will receive a gift.
“Before the Lebanon store opened, Russell County-area customers had to travel 20 miles or more to the nearest ABC store in St. Paul or Abingdon to purchase products,” said Painter. “For more than a decade, Virginia ABC has been opening stores in more rural areas to reduce travel time for customers. The Lebanon store opening is one more way to enable us to better meet the needs of customers and restaurant licensees across the state.”
“Virginia ABC has opened more than 80 stores in the last 10 years and has plans to open additional stores based on market research, customer demand and available locations,” said Hill. “We are excited to be in the Lebanon and Russell County communities. The interest and enthusiasm around this store opening is tremendous and we look forward to providing outstanding customer service to our retail customers and licensee businesses.”
The new Lebanon store measures 3,000 square feet and includes a customized selection of more than 1,300 items including 236 vodkas, 216 bourbons, 146 cordials, 108 rums and miniature items, and 90 tequilas.
“We're eager to welcome customers, answer their questions and fulfill special requests,” said Reeder. “As we get to know customers and restaurant licensees in this area, we will adjust the store’s product selection to accommodate their tastes.”
The store is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The store employs three sales associates. Customers are encouraged to visit Virginia ABC’s website at www.abc.virginia.gov to search for ABC stores, determine the availability of products at any of the 373 retail locations and order spirits online for delivery to a local store.
The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) is a major source of revenue for the commonwealth, contributing more than $2 billion to the general fund in the last five years. The agency currently operates 373 state stores. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement oversees more than 17,000 ABC licensed establishments. The agency also provides alcohol education and prevention programs for people of all ages. Now marking its 84th year, ABC remains committed to progress and innovation in carrying out its control, service and revenue mission.
