Virginia ABC Store in Grafton to Expand

The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) retail location at 5226 George Washington Highway (U.S. Route 17) in the Washington Square Shopping Center in Grafton is expanding. The project will double the store space from 2,205 square feet to 4,410 square feet to offer more product selection for customers along this well-traveled, Tidewater Virginia highway. The store is expanding into a retail space next door which was formerly occupied by Radio Shack.

In fiscal year 2017, the store sold more than 17,131 gallons of products generating almost $1.3 million in gross sales, a 10 percent increase over the previous year’s sales.

“The expansion of this store will provide customers with a greater selection of products including Virginia wines and spirits, as well as a refreshed and inviting atmosphere to create even more enjoyable shopping experiences for both long-time customers and patrons who haven’t previously explored our selection of products,” said Director of Retail Operations Wilson Jones.

During the closure for the expansion project which begins today, customers can shop nearby for distilled spirits at Virginia ABC stores located at 201 Tradesman Way in Nelson’s Grant Shopping Center, Yorktown; 5005 Victory Boulevard in Village Square at Kiln Creek Shopping Center, Yorktown; and 621 Stoney Creek Lane in The Villages of Stoney Run, Newport News. The Grafton retail outlet is expected to reopen sometime in late February.

A searchable list of Virginia ABC’s 370 stores—including brands and quantities of spirits available at each location—can be found on the agency’s newly updated website.
