A new Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) store in Grottoes makes it easier for customers in Augusta and Rockingham counties to shop for spirits. The retail outlet, located in the Villa Crossing Shopping Center at 85 Augusta St., brings the number of Virginia ABC stores in the state to 363.
To celebrate the new store, Virginia ABC will host a grand opening ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18. Citizens are invited to join Virginia ABC Chairman Jeffrey Painter and special guests at the event, which will include brief remarks, a ribbon cutting, photos and informal store tours followed by refreshments. The first 25 customers will receive a free gift.
“Virginia ABC is excited about the retail opportunity in Grottoes and pleased to be at the forefront of providing customer service and convenience,” said Chairman Painter. “We are always seeking new locations to make our extensive product selection even more available for Virginia shoppers.”
The 1,800-square-foot location will offer more than 670 products, including a selection of Virginia-made mixers and spirits. As shoppers make purchases and express their preferences, the manager will refine and customize the store’s product mix to accommodate customer favorites.
The store will be open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
“For the last decade, Virginia ABC has been opening smaller stores in more rural areas to reduce travel time for customers,” said Painter. “The opening of the Grottoes store is a continuation of that strategy. We are pleased with this trajectory of retail growth that enables us to meet the needs and fulfill the orders of customers and restaurant licensees across the state. I’m sure residents will respond positively to having a new Virginia ABC store in their area.”
For customer convenience, a searchable list of Virginia ABC stores—including brands and quantities of spirits available at each location—can be found on the agency’s recently updated website (www.abc.virginia.gov). Customers may also order select spirits online for delivery to the store of their choice.
The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) is a major source of revenue for the commonwealth, contributing more than $1.9 billion to the general fund in the last five years. The agency currently operates 363 state stores. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement oversees more than 17,000 ABC licensed establishments while the Hearings and Appeals Division considers more than 700 cases each year. The agency also provides alcohol education and prevention programs for people of all ages. Now marking its 83rd year, ABC remains committed to progress and innovation in carrying out its control, service and revenue mission.
