Virginia ABC Stores Celebrate Virginia Wine Month with Discounts Throughout October

Virginia Wine Month just got a little bit sweeter at your local ABC store. For the month of October, Virginia ABC’s retail outlets will celebrate Virginia Wine Month with a 15 percent discount on wines produced in the commonwealth. In addition to the discount, tasting events held in select ABC stores across the state will feature Virginia wines.

Customers used to seeing samples of spirits at their local store will see an emphasis on Virginia wine at ABC store tasting events. This inclusion of Virginia wine throughout October will showcase the wide selection of discounted products including sparkling, red, white and rose wines.

“We are proud to support our state’s widely acclaimed wine industry and include these fine ‘made in Virginia’ products on ABC store shelves,” said Virginia ABC Chairman Jeffrey Painter. “Our partnership with the Virginia Wine Board Marketing Office and the Virginia Tourism Corporation to promote Virginia Wine Month highlights the economic development and growing tourism that we can attribute to our local wineries and vineyards.”

With more than 275 wineries and almost 4,000 acres of vineyards across the state, Virginia is recognized as one of the top 10 wine travel destinations in the world due to the state’s rich history of grape cultivation and excellence in agricultural practices. Wines made in Virginia have earned national and international awards and recognition.

Customers are encouraged to use the agency’s updated website at www.abc.virginia.gov, to find a new favorite Virginia wine at a store near you.

The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) is a major source of revenue for the commonwealth, contributing more than $1.8 billion to the general fund in the last five years. The agency currently operates 360 state stores. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement oversees more than 17,000 ABC licensed establishments while the Hearings and Appeals Division considers more than 700 cases each year. The agency also provides alcohol education and prevention programs for people of all ages. Now marking its 83rd year, ABC remains committed to progress and innovation in carrying out its control, service and revenue mission.
