When Virginia ABC opened its first Norfolk store in 1934, shoppers could choose from 305 products. The agency grossed $12.8 million in sales that year. Now, as the agency opens its seventh Norfolk location after posting 2015 gross sales exceeding $848 million, customers are able to choose from a catalog of more than 2,600 products.
Virginia ABC will hold a grand opening ceremony at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, for its newest Norfolk store located in the K&K Square Shopping Center at 7550 Granby St.Virginia ABC Commissioner Judy Napier and special guests will attend the celebration, which will include brief remarks, a ribbon cutting, photos and informal store tours followed by refreshments. The grand opening ceremony is open to the public, and the first 25 customers will receive a free gift.
“Virginia ABC is excited to expand the opportunity for customers to responsibly enjoy the thousands of excellent products we offer in stores and online,” said Commissioner Napier.
The 2,100-square-foot store carries more than 900 items, which are determined by the store manager based on local preferences. This includes more than 240 vodka items, 150 bourbon items and 100 rum items. The retail outlet employs six people: one manager and five sales associates. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The nearest Virginia ABC store is located at 7862 Tidewater Drive in Norfolk.
“Through our redesigned website, customers seeking products not offered in store can order them online for pick up at their neighborhood ABC store,” said Napier. “That means every customer has access to our wide selection of products regardless of what is offered at their favorite store.”
Virginia ABC operates 357 stores in the commonwealth. The agency has opened more than 80 stores in the last 10 years and has plans to open additional stores based on market research, customer demand and available locations.
