The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Bureau of Law Enforcement is proud to announce that one of its own, Regional Agent in Charge Thomas W. Kirby, graduated Friday from the FBI National Academy Program at Quantico, Va.
Kirby was one of 230 law enforcement officers from 47 states and 27 countries that graduated from the esteemed program. Internationally acclaimed for its academic excellence, the National Academy Program offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership and fitness training to select officers who have proven records as professionals within their agencies.
“We congratulate Tom on this prestigious accomplishment, one that will benefit the agency and those we serve,” said ABC’s Special Policy Advisor for Law Enforcement Ryant Washington. “An invitation to attend the FBI National Academy is only extended to those with outstanding character and professional integrity, and Tom certainly displays these traits.”
Kirby joins the ranks of four other Virginia ABC sworn personnel who graduated from the respected program, including Special Agent Randy Badura, Special Agent in Charge Frank Monahan, Deputy Secretary to the Board Chris Curtis, and Director Shawn Walker. His diploma was presented to him by FBI Director James B. Comey.
“The FBI National Academy Program was a remarkable experience and opportunity, and I was honored to train with some of the finest law enforcement leadership in the world,” said Kirby. “The program was challenging both academically and physically, but I gained valuable knowledge and insights that will help me better serve Virginia’s communities.”
A total of 48,791 graduates now represent the alumni of the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935.
