In the neighborhood of Thomas Jefferson’s famous Poplar Forest, the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) will celebrate the opening of its second store in Forest, located at 14521 Forest Road in the Shoppes at Parsons Place.
Virginia ABC will host a grand opening at the location on Monday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. The ceremony will include brief remarks from ABC Chairman Jeffrey Painter, a ribbon cutting, informal store tours and refreshments.
Community members are invited to attend the grand opening celebration. The first 25 customers making a purchase on Dec. 14 will receive a free, non-alcoholic gift.
“Virginia ABC is very excited to open a second retail outlet in Forest,” said Chairman Painter. “We are always seeking new opportunities to make our extensive product selection even more convenient to Virginia shoppers. Forest’s first store was a great success and we look forward to this one being equally well received.”
Virginia ABC’s other Forest location is three miles from the new store and is located in the Graves Mill Center at 18013 Forest Road.
Five people are employed at the 1,750-square-foot retail location, which offers more than 900 products, including more than 210 bourbon items, 230 vodka items and a wide selection of Virginia-made wine and spirits. As shoppers make purchases and express their preferences, the store manager will refine and customize the product mix at the store to accommodate customer favorites.
The location’s operating hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Virginia ABC operates 354 stores in the commonwealth. The agency has opened more than 80 stores in the last 10 years and has plans to open additional stores based on market research, customer demand and available locations. Customers may use Virginia ABC’s newly updated website (www.abc.virginia.gov) to search for ABC stores, determine the availability of products at any of its retail locations and order spirits online for delivery to a local store.
The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) is a major source of revenue for the commonwealth, contributing more than $1.8 billion to the general fund in the last five years. The agency currently operates 354 state stores. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement oversees more than 16,000 ABC licensed establishments while the Hearings and Appeals Division considers more than 700 cases each year. The agency also provides alcohol education and prevention programs for people of all ages. ABC is committed to progress and innovation in carrying out its control, service and revenue mission.
