Virginia ABC to Celebrate Floyd’s First Store with Grand Opening

The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) will cut the drive time in half for Floyd residents shopping for distilled spirits with the opening of its newest store located in the Floyd Development Building at 117 Parkview Road, N.E.

Until now, Floyd residents had to drive 20 miles to the nearest store in Christiansburg.

To celebrate the opening of Floyd’s first store, Virginia ABC will host a grand opening at the location on Monday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. The ceremony will include brief remarks from Virginia ABC Chairman Jeffrey Painter, a ribbon cutting, informal store tours and refreshments.

Community members are invited to attend the grand opening celebration. The first 25 customers making a purchase on Sept. 14 will receive a free non-alcoholic gift.

"Virginia ABC is very excited to open the agency’s first Floyd store," said Chairman Painter. "This store will bring our wide selection of quality products just down the street from residents who previously had to drive to Christiansburg or beyond. We look forward to continuing our mission of advocating for the responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages."

Four people are employed at the 2,041-square-foot retail location, which offers more than 700 products, including approximately 160 bourbon items, more than 140 vodka items and a selection of Virginia-made wine and spirits. As shoppers make purchases and express their preferences, the store manager will refine and customize the product mix at the store to accommodate customer favorites. The location’s operating hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

"We're eager to welcome customers from Floyd and the surrounding area, answer their questions and fulfill special requests," said Virginia ABC Director of Retail Operations Wilson Jones.

Virginia ABC operates 353 stores in the commonwealth. The agency has opened 81 stores in the last 10 years and has plans to open additional stores based on market research, customer demand and available locations.  Customers may use Virginia ABC’s newly updated website (www.abc.virginia.gov) to search for ABC stores, determine the availability of products at any of its retail locations and order spirits online for delivery to a local store.

The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) is a major source of revenue for the commonwealth, contributing more than $1.8 billion to the general fund in the last five years. The agency currently operates 353 state stores. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement oversees more than 16,000 ABC licensed establishments while the Hearings and Appeals Division considers more than 700 cases each year. The agency also provides alcohol education and prevention programs for people of all ages. ABC is committed to progress and innovation in carrying out its control, service and revenue mission.
