Virginians who appreciate distilled spirits now have a new source for information about liquor and its availability in the state: the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC)’s quarterly magazine, Spirited Virginia.
Virginia ABC recently published 14,000 copies of its inaugural issue of Spirited Virginia magazine. The publication is free and available at any of Virginia ABC’s 350+ stores.
“This beautiful, new magazine reflects our expanded efforts to connect with customers and business partners,” said Virginia ABC Chairman Jeffrey Painter. “It showcases Virginia ABC’s diverse product selection, provides new ideas for making cocktails with available products and offers suggestions if customers want to try something new.”
This publication replaces the Virginia Wine & Liquor Quarterly magazine, which provided Virginia ABC’s product price list. Spirited Virginia includes the same list of each of the 2,800 products Virginia ABC carries, but also features stories about distilled spirits, appealing photography, cocktail recipes from mixologists around the state and Virginia ABC news. The magazine also has a complete listing of contact information for Virginia ABC stores in alphabetical order by city/county.
The first (July/August/September) issue of the 56-page color magazine features articles that highlight the nuances of bourbon, explain why flavored moonshine has become so popular and share cocktails perfect for outdoor entertaining.
A digital version of Spirited Virginia is available on Virginia ABC’s newly updated website (www.abc.virginia.gov). The website also offers an interactive product catalog that allows customers to check real-time availability of products in any Virginia ABC store and order spirits online for delivery to a local store.
Roanoke-based Leisure Media 360 secures advertising from distilled spirits vendors and brokers, publishing Spirited Virginia at no cost to Virginia ABC. The agency will release an issue each January, April, July and October.
In addition to the magazine, Virginia ABC is offering product-related content on its Spirited Virginia Facebook page and will soon begin sending a Spirited Virginia email newsletter to those customers who opt to receive it.
The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) is a major source of revenue for the commonwealth, contributing more than $1.8 billion to the general fund in the last five years. The agency currently operates 351 state stores. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement oversees more than 16,000 ABC licensed establishments while the Hearings and Appeals Division considers more than 700 cases each year. The agency also provides alcohol education and prevention programs for people of all ages. ABC is committed to progress and innovation in carrying out its control, service and revenue mission.
