The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) store located at 123 W. Main St. in Covington will close at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10. It will relocate a little more than two miles south to 339 Thacker Ave., Suite 10, and is expected to reopen the following Thursday, Jan. 15.
The new store will offer a larger retail area with about 560 additional square feet devoted to shopping space than was available at the previous store. The new Thacker Avenue store will have more than 1,352 linear feet of shelving allowing the addition of 567 new products. It will also offer expanded hours, opening from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) is a major source of revenue for the commonwealth, contributing more than $1.8 billion to the general fund in the last five years. The agency currently operates 350 state stores.
