Finding the closest ABC store just got a bit easier. The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) launched a new store locator application that offers customers enhanced functions and easier usability. The application is available on the Virginia ABC website (www.abc.virginia.gov). It offers both map and satellite views and allows users to manipulate the map by zooming in and out.
“This is the first of many customer-oriented upgrades ABC is implementing to connect customers to the products they want,” said Commissioner Judy Napier. “The commonwealth will welcome millions of visitors to Virginia during the upcoming summer months, and providing our guests a simple way to locate the ABC store closest to their hotel or vacation property will make their visit that much more enjoyable.”
Modeled on the Google Maps API platform, the new store locator enables users to search ABC stores by address, zip code, locality and even store number. Pushpin store markers were replaced with custom ABC icons to mark the location of each store.
The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) is a major source of revenue for the commonwealth, contributing more than $1.7 billion to the general fund in the last five years. The agency currently operates 347 state stores. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement oversees more than 16,000 ABC licensed establishments while the Hearings and Appeals Division considers more than 700 cases each year. The agency also provides alcohol education and prevention programs for people of all ages. Now in its 80th year, ABC remains committed to progress and innovation in carrying out its control, service and revenue mission.
