The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) will join other retailers by offering discounted prices on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the traditional kickoff to the holiday shopping season.
On Friday, Nov. 28, only, all stores will offer 10 percent off any purchase totaling $50 or more (pretax) with lottery and gift cards excluded. The discount applies to regular sales and does not apply to licensee purchases.
In addition, as part of the agency’s 80th anniversary celebration, Virginia ABC will offer a one-day opportunity to register for a special gift card drawing. On Dec. 17, 80 lucky winners will be selected in a drawing from those registered on Black Friday, and each will receive an $80 gift card redeemable at any of Virginia ABC’s 350 stores statewide. A purchase is not required to register for the gift card drawing.
”This is a unique opportunity for our retail customers to celebrate our anniversary with us,” Virginia ABC Chairman Jeff Painter said. “And for individuals interested in trading up to more premium brands, stocking up for holiday parties or getting gifts for friends, family and coworkers, Black Friday is a great time to purchase quality items at reduced prices.”
No product will be excluded from the 10 percent discount. Shoppers spending the minimum $50 will receive the discount on everything from miniatures, which make great stocking stuffers, to top-shelf specialty items. During the holiday season, Virginia ABC stocks gift sets from a variety of vendors that offer shoppers additional gifting opportunities.
“ABC encourages Virginians to drink responsibly. As the holiday season approaches, we should be especially mindful of the safe consumption of all alcoholic beverages,” Painter said.
