Benzos, Spice, Ivory Wave, Red Dove, K-3, Z-Bar, Beans…it’s hard to talk to your kids about substance abuse…it’s even harder if you don’t speak the language. The Substance Abuse Awareness Vital for Virginia Youth (SAVVY) Initiative wants to help parents, educators and community groups “get SAVVY” about youth substance abuse at the fourth SAVVY Expo
Governor Bob McDonnell’s prevention initiative is designed to help parents, educators, and youth advocates teach children about the dangers of substance abuse. At the SAVVY Expo more than 20 exhibitors will share current trends and prevention programs spotlighting: bath salts, synthetic cannabinoids, prescription and over-the-counter medicines, alcohol, inhalants, and other commonly-abused substances.
The Secretaries of Education, Public Safety and Health and Human Resources launched the SAVVY initiative in November 2012 with successful networking events in Central, Northern and Eastern Virginia. Now expo planners are requesting parents, and other interested parties, “save the date” to attend the fourth expo at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.
