ABC Special Agents Seize Sales Records From Retro's Restaurant

Hampton - While executing a search warrant on Oct. 26, special agents seized sales records, journals and a computer point of sale cash register system from Retro's Restaurant in Hampton, as part of an ongoing investigation into white-collar crime.

"Based on analysis of business records previously obtained by the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), the Retro's had sales exceeding $150,000, on which more that $7,500 in Virginia sales tax was collected," said Bob Brooks, special agent in charge. "Records obtained from the Oct. 26 search warrant indicate that none of the collected taxes have been remitted to the Virginia Department of Taxation."

Located on the 11100 block of Warwick Boulevard, Retro's Restaurant is scheduled for a hearing on Nov. 13 to address the following charges: Failure to maintain financial responsibility; allowing an employee to consume alcoholic beverages while on duty and failure to maintain records of the operation of the business and making those records available for inspection by ABC special agents. Evidence uncovered from the Oct. 26 search warrant may lead to additional administrative and criminal charges.
