Susan R. Swecker Named Chair of the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control

In accordance with the rotating board chair policy established under ABC's current board administration, the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) is pleased to announce that Commissioner Susan R. Swecker assumed the position of board chair as of April 1.

Swecker, a native of Highland County, is a graduate of Mary Baldwin College and Washington and Lee University School of Law, and has been a member of the Virginia Bar Association since 1991. She has over 25 years of experience in government relations, public relations, grassroots consulting and issues/campaign management. She is a former senior vice president of McGuireWoods Consulting and a veteran of Democratic campaigns. Most recently, Swecker served as campaign manager for Creigh Deed's race for Attorney General.

Governor Timothy M. Kaine appointed Swecker, along with Commissioners Pamela O'Berry Evans and Esther H. Vassar in March 2006. Committed to leading ABC in all aspects of the agency's control/service/revenue mission, the board's focus will bring numerous benefits to ABC employees and the citizens of the Commonwealth.
