Virginia ABC Assists Virginia DMV With Limo Safety Checkpoints in the Hampton Area
The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) will be assisting as the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) conducts limo safety checkpoints at high school events in the Hampton area. Three checkpoint locations are scheduled for tonight and one tomorrow night.
The random, unannounced limousine checkpoints are being conducted by DMV statewide through mid-June. With prom and graduation season now at hand, there is an increased demand for limousine services. However, some may not be licensed to do business in the Commonwealth and may not meet safety and insurance standards.
At prom checkpoints, DMV agents check for compliance with safety, license and insurance requirements and ABC agents look for violations of Virginia alcohol laws. Limousine companies should not provide, transport or allow consumption of alcohol by underage passengers. DMV and ABC special agents are fully sworn police officers and will also be addressing any other criminal violations that may arise at the checkpoints.
