Training & Development
One of ABC's strategic goals is to increase opportunities for employees to expand their knowledge, skills, abilities and core competencies. The agency's Training & Development section assists the agency in fulfilling this goal.
The Training & Development section offers employees training opportunities in four areas:
Job Performance: Training related to job skills, performance improvement, professional development, or certification
Legal Requirement: Training required by law or regulation
Career Development: Training for knowledge/skills not currently required but in the future is an expected requirement
Undergraduate and or Graduate Study: Related to job responsibilities
Employees can attend programs offered onsite that are facilitated by a staff of professional trainers, or, at a local community college or university.

Specialized training is offered to employees of the agency's Retail Division. Part-time employees complete a self-paced eight-hour program, Retail 101. Last year, 675 part-time employees participated in this training. Retail 101 equips employees with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide excellence in customer service and effective public safety, two key aspects of the agency's mission statement.
Retail managers and assistant managers complete a two week comprehensive On-the-Job Management Training (OJT) Program. OJT prepares new managers to successfully assume their new store management duties.
Tuition Assistance Program
The agency's Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) offers tuition assistance reimbursement for undergraduate and graduate college courses at accredited institutions, within budgetary constraints, when these courses are related to an employee's job responsibilities. All agency full-time, classified employees are eligible to participate.
TAP reflects ABC's commitment to promote a learning culture that strives to retain and recruit an educated workforce equipped to meet future business needs.
